Second Grade Oaxacan Sculpture

Second graders completed their first sculptural project of the year. Using clay, they practiced different shaping techniques. Each student then created their own hybrid animal, by combing parts from two or more other animals.  In the library you will find some very rare creatures, including a slug bird, a flying turtle, and a venomous crocodile snake. Students brought their ideas to life with clay, and then painted them in a Oaxacan style, using lots of bright colors, patterns, stripes and dots .
