Second Grade Oaxacan Sculpture

Image
Click here for more pictures! Second graders completed their first sculptural project of the year. Using clay, they practiced different shaping techniques. Each student then created their own hybrid animal, by combing parts from two or more other animals.  In the library you will find some very rare creatures, including a slug bird, a flying turtle, and a venomous crocodile snake. Students brought their ideas to life with clay, and then painted them in a Oaxacan style, using lots of bright colors, patterns, stripes and dots .

Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten Swim with the Rainbow Fish

Image
Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten students read the story the Rainbow fish. As a class we talked about beauty and the value of sharing and kindness. Each student then created two paper fish, sewed them partially around the edges and stuffed them. After the fish took shape, they sewed the final opening closed and had their own fish sculpture. Each student then got to make two rainbow scales, that they shared with a classmate. Our Rainbow fish are swimming in the library, so go take a look at the fish and read the story! Middle School Woven Baskets

Click for more Pictures  Middle school students began their introduction to three dimensional art with basket weaving. Students started out by sketching different baskets, and planning their color choices. Using a traditional crazy eight stitch, students created a woven base and experimented with the curve of the sides. Some students chose to add handles or lids to their work, and the results are amazing to behold!
