Friday Update

Image
As week four comes to a close students are completing their first unit, and moving into their second unit. Art work is going up in the Cybrary, so when you are on campus make sure you stop by and check out the new work. Our Early Childhood students had a great week! They continued making paper, mixing tints (a color plus white) and learning about folk tales. The Kinder Artists used  the folk tale "The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush" as retold by Tomie DePaola to inspire their sunset paintings. First Grade students continued to explore paper-making, lines, and paint this week. They also made some adorable shape based frogs to put on top of their line practice. What a hoppin' art room! Second Grade students have been working with me in small groups to create the first steps of their large scale self portraits. At the same time they are working on sea inspired printing plates for our Under the Sea themed Art show!  Third Grade students are learning abo...

CIPLC Students had a great first few weeks back at school and are getting into their first projects! Our Early Childhood students are busy experimenting with different media, and this week they worked on collages and played with paint! First Grade students played with analogous colors and line to paint and begin to assemble mixed media cactus. Fluffy clouds and sandy foregrounds will be added next week.  Second Grade students continued to work on their Henri  Matisse inspired collages. Students will be embellishing the collages with their names.  Third Grade students are working with continuous line drawing, or drawing an entire image with one line! They are super excited to start adding color.  Fourth Grade artists are studying Modern Artist Hundertwasser, and created drawings with his signature hidden faces and eyes, contour lines, onion domes, and other elements.  Fifth Grade artists have been looking at the work of Paul Klee, and using ...

Student Led Studio Sessions

What an awesome day in the Art room at CIPLC! Student Led Conferences were taking place  all across campus, and in the Art room students, parents, grandparents, aunts, and cousins came together  to create. Students in grades 1-6 taught their families one of the skills they had learned or practiced this year. Our grade six artists had their families try out blind contour drawing. Grade five artists were on hand to teach printmaking using styrofoam plates. Recycled paper making was a huge hit with our fourth grade  families and artists. Third grade artists brought Amedeo Modigliani's unique portrait style to life. Paper weaving was the domain of our second grade artists and families, and they  went  all out with  color and pattern. Our first grade artists demonstrated their sewing skills to their families.  The turnout was excellent and the art room was bustling all morning! I can't wait to see how our community continues to come together next year!...

Second Grade Louise Nevelson inspired sculptures

Image
Second Grade artists explored the work of sculptor Louise Nevelson. Nevelson was born in Russia and later moved to the United States. Her sculptures are characterized by their large size, and repurposed components. She worked mostly with scrap wood and found objects.  Her pieces also tend to be monochromatic, or painted in a wash of one color.  CIPLC students enjoyed using popsicle sticks and found objects to create their own monochromatic sculptures!  Check out the link below to read more about Nevelson and see some of her pieces:  https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/louise-nevelson-1696
