Fourth Grade Collaborative Art

Fourth grade students are playing with non-objective, abstract designs. Each student must paint a rock using patterns, lines, shapes, and colors, but they are not allowed to make it look like any object. All of their individual units will come together to form one final sculpture. Before they started to paint they worked together as a class to figure out the placement of their rocks within the circle. Check back soon for more pictures!

Kindergarten Bambulinas

Kindergartners have been hard at work creating Bambulinas, using a subtractive/additive weaving technique. Students started with a base of burlap, and pulled out sections of the weft. Then they tied yarn in big pinches to create a colorful diamond pattern. This project challenged their motor and spatial reasoning skills, and they did a fantastic job!

Fourth Grade Castle Prints

Fourth graders focused on pattern and detail in their print making unit. They created castles and added texture pattern and detail into every surface. They then created a painted background with the help of the SLOT (service learning on Tuesday) helpers. They used the some of the same details in their background as they did in their prints. Take a look at them in person now in the CIPLC library. Click here to go to the Picasa Album!

Kindergarten Rainbows

Kindergarten used Roy G. Biv and Rainbows to learn about colors and shapes. They then each made their own rainbow, now on display in the CIPLC library. Enjoy the slideshow below or click here to look at the album on Picasa .

New Art Room web site!

The CIPLC Art Room has a new website. The website will be a home for our on-line learning days, as well as a home for copies of forms, documents and rubrics. The site also features project updates, letting you know what projects are happening in the Art room, grade by grade. First and Second grade Art Stars will also be posted. Older students can check out homework reminders, and there is a class calendar with important dates. I will continue to add information and updates, so take a look, and let me know if there is anything you would like to see. Thanks! Ms. Makowski Click here to check out Ready! Set! Fifth Grade Navajo inspired weaving

Image
Click here for more pictures!  Fifth graders looked at weaving from around the world and created Navajo inspired wall hangings. Each student created a pattern to weave from, which had to include one geometric shape. Some students experimented with making up their own weaving techniques, which resulted in some neat wall hangings. They are currently on display in the main building, go check them out!

Third grade Dream Catchers

Image
Photo by Catherine, 3rd grade Click here for more pictures!  Third graders created dream catchers for their weaving unit. The played with color as well as embellishment with beads and feathers. They looked at traditional Ojibwe dream catchers, as well as modern artists interpretations. We discussed how ideas and art change over time, and as art is shared with others.

Pre-Kindergarten Plays with Shapes!

Image
Pre-Kindergarten has been hard at work learning about shapes and all the fun things we can do and make with them. They took a break from all their hard work, and used their knowledge of shapes to make shapes with their classmates! They did a great job turning their arms and legs into edges and sides! We made triangles, squares, a big rectangle, and a circle so large it wouldn't fit in a picture!

First Grade's First Coil Pots

Image
Click Here for more pictures! First Grade created their first coil pots. They started their introduction to clay by playing with the material and getting messy. Each student then worked on making and flattening a ball to create a base, and learning how to roll coils. The coils were added to the base and smoothed together. We finished the project by painting our pots with bright colors and patterns. The results are colorful, funky and have a whole lot of personality. Check them out in person in the CIPLC Library.
